Music For Your Enjoyment

The Humane Society of Sarasota County received a dog named Buddy. He is an American Bulldog Hound Mix.  He is so cute and sweet.  I met him at the Ron Gordon Golf  Tournament , raising money for the Humane Society, last weekend.  He is dying from cancer and has only 2 years to live.  I understand he lived a very hard life and now he has a wonderful home waiting for him.  Since I met him, he has gone to a foster home while transportation plans are being made to get him to his forever home, in the Houston, Tx area. There is a sanctuary there that is like hospice for animals.

We would like to find a way, preferably the least stressful, to get Buddy from Sarasota to Houston. It seems that driving would be the best.  If not, a direct flight with an airline that would keep him, comfortable and safe.  If you can help, please let me know.  I can connect you with his foster mom.

I want to thank every one in my database for all you do for all of the animals in this world.  Your actions make a big difference!

UPDATE….Buddy is taken care of. He will be driven to his new home and there have been almost $2,000 raised to pay for his care.  Thanks for your support!

I would like to make a donation to help pay for the transportation costs. If whoever is handling this would send me an email, I will gladly support you.

I’d check out either: or to see if they can help with transportation. Otherwise, by contacting a breed rescue group (like a bulldog group) in the area, they might be able to rally some volunteers to do transportation since they often have to do that to help their pups get to new homes. Here’s another link that may be helpful that mentions different options for transporting rescued animals: .

How ’bout checking with groups that travel? For example, I’ve heard quite a few stories about RVers who travel across country who have taken pets from one location to another. This past summer there was a dog that went from Florida to Seattle via RVers — they just passed the dog from one RV to the next as they found people heading in the direction the dog needed to go.

Have you contacted Pilots ‘n Paws? Here is their web address:

I’m sure you know of these railroads where various legs of trips are offered by different volunteers to take dogs to their forever homes.

The outfit that provides information on our Ask the Pet Relocation Expert feature ( does door-to-door transport (they take care of everything), but it’s very expensive (usually in the thousands of dollars). Others are Pet Airways (pet only airline) and Dog Travel Company (you and your pet fly together).

    Hope this helps!

SouthWest Airlines had a program ( and I believe they still do ) called “Give Your Heart Wings” where people could donate their miles to nonprofit groups. I know they fly to Houston. I think the closest airport they serve to you is Tampa. You may want to contact them and get details. Pet Airways is an airline that specifically transports pets but their points of service are very limited at this time.

  • hi Donna, i will post this to my facebook page… what a sweet boy.:)

What a sad story – poor little boy. I’m assuming you’ve checked w/ the airlines on flight costs? and Pilots ‘n Paws? This sounds like one right up their alley, although it would be a multi-leg flight.

Not sure with the merger with United what’s happening w/ Continental airlines animal shipping, but I’ve used them a number of times and found them to be reasonable and they take care of the animals – gotta think there’s a direct flight from FL to Houston. They’re about the only airline I’d trust, but with the merger, just not sure how good they are any more. Depending on size Buddy’s transport would probably be around $300 (I’m guessing -the dogs I shipped were always under 60 lb.w/ crate & the cost was a bit over $200.

Have you checked with American Bulldog Rescues?
